SANTA ROSA, Calif. - May 17, 2001 - TrueTime, Inc. (NASDAQ: TRUE), a leading provider of precision time and frequency products, today announced the introduction of the NTS-150 Network Time Server. The high-performance NTS-150 is a Stratum 1 network time server that offers users the ability to accurately synchronize enterprise servers, workstations, routers and other important networked devices to within one to 10 milliseconds. Accurate synchronization is essential for many mission critical network operations and applications, and particularly important for network log file accuracy to improve network fault diagnosis and forensics.

The NTS-150 derives reliable and secure time directly from the atomic clocks aboard the GPS satellite system and distributes it over the network using the Network Time Protocol (NTP). The high-bandwidth capability of the NTS-150 is essential as modern broadband networks grow larger and faster and the need for reliable time becomes critical. The high availability and throughput of the NTS-150, as with all TrueTime network time servers, ensures that it can support thousands of network clients with no degradation in timing accuracy.

"Network operations require time synchronized information to ensure optimal network performance," said Paul Skoog, TrueTime's product manager of IP networking products. "Often it is not until a problem surfaces that the lack of time synchronization becomes a key factor in either a failure or the ability to troubleshoot one. For example, precise timing benefits the auditing and monitoring of network log files. Since server logs are a compilation of information from different hosts, it is essential that the time stamps be correct. A lack of precise synchronization creates considerable difficulty when ordering events and troubleshooting root-cause problems. A network appliance, such as the network time server, solves this problem by keeping the clocks on a wide variety of network devices very closely synchronized."

The NTS-150 is the latest addition to TrueTime's family of network time servers that includes the NTS-200 and TimeVault. Enhancements found in these servers include an HTTP web interface for remote access via common browser, redundant time references to provide the confidence that the network has accurate time and a display and keypad to quickly and easily configure the unit from the front panel without having to communicate via the RS-232 port or telnet. The NTS-150 will be available in May with prices starting at $2,395.
