| The Network Time Protocol
(NTP) is a client/server application. Each client workstation, router,
or server must be equipped with NTP client software to synchronize
its clock to the network time server.
TrueTime's NTS-150, NTS-200 and TimeVault are stand-alone, Stratum
1 network time servers used to synchronize all of the NTP software
clients on a network. NTP software clients automatically initiate
requests for time from the time server in accordance with the Network
Time Protocol. Since the clocks of the clients will drift over time,
the local NTP client software periodically requests time from the
time server to precisely synchronize the local system clock.
In addition to adding the network time server to your network,
the NTP client software must be installed on each of the workstations
or servers that will interface with the time server. In some cases
the client software is already resident in the operating system
of the workstation, server or router.
TrueTime advocates the Domain Time II network time synchronization software suite as the preferred software solution for many very good reasons. However, there are some network devices and operating systems that Domain Time II does not support. Below are links to time client software for various operating systems
and devices that can be downloaded as freeware or shareware. In
addition are links to operating system suppliers discussions regarding
configuring time clients.
